CR7 Watches

Are CR7 watches becoming more valuable in Dubai?

There are watches that tell the time, watches that tell a story, and then there are watches that become part of a person's story. The Jacob & Co. CR7 collection certainly falls into the third category. It carries the name, branding, and identity of one of the most recognizable sportspeople of the modern age, Cristiano Ronaldo. But that raises a question every serious collector eventually asks: can fame create lasting value, or is it simply fleeting hype?

The answer is particularly interesting in Dubai, where the luxury-watch market is sophisticated enough to look beyond marketing noise and distinguish between genuine collectables and temporary trends. A CR7 watch can certainly stand out because of its association with Ronaldo. However, attention alone does not create appreciation. When collectors assess whether a watch can become more valuable over time, they typically look for factors such as scarcity, originality, provenance, condition, mechanical credibility, and sustained demand.

These are important considerations for the Jacob & Co. Flight of CR7 and Heart of CR7. These are not ordinary celebrity watches. They were created as a genuine partnership between Jacob & Co. and Ronaldo, with designs built around his sporting persona. But they also enter a secondary market where Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet have decades of established collector history behind them.

So, are CR7 watches gaining value in Dubai?

They might — but not simply because Cristiano Ronaldo wears one.

The Jacob & Co. x CR7 Epic X Collection

While celebrity associations can be significant in luxury watches, savvy collectors know that it is only one element among many.

The Jacob & Co. x CR7 Epic X collection was built around Ronaldo's identity and featured two main designs: the red-accented 18-karat rose-gold model known as the Flight of CR7, and the green-accented stainless-steel model known as the Heart of CR7.

Both feature a skeletonized dial, CR7 branding and Ronaldo's image on the sapphire case back. The watches measure 44mm and are powered by the manually wound JCAM45 movement, offering approximately 48 hours of power reserve. Jacob & Co. continues to present the Epic X CR7 as a highly distinctive collaboration built around Ronaldo's identity.

As per the original pricing, they were firmly positioned as high-end products.

  • Heart of CR7: around $28,000 without diamonds
  • Heart of CR7 with diamond bezel: around $117,000
  • Flight of CR7: around $56,000
  • Flight of CR7 with diamond bezel: around $145,000

The diamond versions feature approximately 4.26 carats of baguette-cut diamonds.

This is important because the CR7 line was not marketed as a low-tier line of celebrity products. It was deliberately built as a serious luxury Jacob & Co. watch with an extremely recognisable identity.

But the investment argument becomes particularly interesting when that identity is connected to Ronaldo himself.

How Cristiano Ronaldo Could Influence Future Value

Cristiano Ronaldo is no mere celebrity who happened to endorse a watch.

He is already part of football history.

The CR7 name has a global reach that few athletes can match. Multiple Ballon d'Or awards, Champions League records, international success and extraordinary longevity have turned Ronaldo from a successful footballer into a global cultural figure.

That creates something collectors understand very well:

Provenance Through Association

There is, however, an important distinction between association and provenance.

A watch that is part of a celebrity collaboration is not necessarily the same as a watch that was personally owned and worn by that celebrity. The value of a documented chain of ownership in making a watch desirable has been demonstrated repeatedly in the auction world.

That is why the future of CR7 watches could become even more interesting if the watches themselves eventually become part of Ronaldo's legacy.

Twenty or thirty years from now, if Ronaldo is regarded among the defining sporting figures of his generation, today's CR7 pieces could carry an entirely different meaning.

For now, however, expensive is a more appropriate description than collectible.

The Paul Newman Daytona Lesson: When a Name Becomes Part of the Watch

The best example is not another footballer.

It is Paul Newman.

In the early days when Rolex produced Daytona chronographs, watches with exotic dials were not necessarily regarded as untouchable collector trophies. Over time, however, certain Daytonas became inseparably associated with Newman, his racing career, and his personal style.

The result was extraordinary.

The vintage Paul Newman Daytona became one of the world's most sought-after watches, with particularly rare examples commanding multiples of the prices of comparable Daytonas.

The most famous example came in 2017, when Newman's own Rolex Daytona sold at auction for $17.75 million, including buyer's premium. The watch's documented connection to Newman played a crucial role in its extraordinary status.

That's the lesson to be learned.

The celebrity didn't make every Daytona a $17 million watch.

The combination of:

  • The Daytona's historical importance
  • Rarity
  • Condition
  • Original configuration
  • Racing associations
  • Paul Newman's celebrity
  • Documented ownership

Created something far more significant than an ordinary luxury watch.

That is an important distinction for anyone interested in a CR7 watch today.

The fact that Cristiano Ronaldo wears a Jacob & Co. CR7 watch does not make it the next Paul Newman Daytona.

But the Paul Newman story teaches us something valuable: a watch can become synonymous with a culturally significant personality, and that relationship can eventually become part of the watch's value.

What Makes a CR7 Watch Potentially Collectible?

1. Limited Production

Scarcity is one of the most powerful forces in collectible watches.

The CR7 Epic X watches were produced in limited quantities, with launch information indicating 999 pieces for the standard versions and 499 pieces for the diamond-set versions.

That immediately gives the watches more intrigue than an unlimited-production celebrity watch.

There is, however, a significant caveat:

Limited production does not automatically create value.

There are thousands of limited-edition watches sitting in collectors' boxes that have never appreciated.

Scarcity has to meet demand.

2. The Jacob & Co. Factor

Jacob & Co. is a very different proposition from Rolex.

Its identity revolves around extravagant design, intricate movements, gemstones and highly expressive watches. The CR7 collection fits this philosophy exceptionally well.

That makes the collaboration feel cohesive rather than superficial.

Ronaldo's preference for large, distinctive and frequently gem-set timepieces also makes Jacob & Co. a natural partner. His long association with the brand further strengthens the story behind the collaboration.

This matters because the value of a collector's piece can be stronger when the collaboration makes historical and stylistic sense.

The story becomes easier to remember.

However, Here Is the Reality Check: The Secondary Market Decides

This is where excitement needs to be replaced by evidence.

The best way to determine whether a watch is genuinely appreciating is not to look at its original retail price.

It is to look at what buyers are actually prepared to pay for it after the initial purchase.

Current secondary-market listings provide an interesting snapshot.

A current Chrono24 listing for a Flight of CR7 Rose Gold is around $56,950, compared with a reported original retail price of approximately $56,000. That represents only a modest difference and, importantly, it is an asking price rather than a confirmed completed transaction.

A separate listing for the stainless-steel Heart of CR7 is around $27,688, broadly close to its reported $28,000 launch price.

This is an important reality check.

There is currently little evidence that the standard CR7 models have entered the kind of runaway appreciation seen in the world's most collectible Rolex, Patek Philippe or Audemars Piguet references.

That is not necessarily a bad thing.

It simply means the market is still deciding what these watches will ultimately become.

Why Dubai Is an Interesting Test Market

Dubai has emerged as one of the world's important destinations for collectors, buyers, and sellers of luxury watches.

The UAE's pre-owned luxury-watch market is also expanding. Recent market research estimates that the UAE pre-owned luxury-watch market generated approximately $910.3 million in revenue in 2025 and could reach approximately $2.62 billion by 2033.

That environment matters because Dubai buyers have access to the full spectrum of the luxury-watch market.

They can compare a CR7 Jacob & Co. directly with a Rolex Daytona, Patek Philippe Nautilus, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Richard Mille, Cartier or other collectible references.

Simply put, CR7 watches do not exist in isolation.

They compete for the same collector's money.

And that makes the question of future value considerably more difficult.

Dubai Collectors Are Becoming More Selective

The growth of the pre-owned market does not mean every limited edition will automatically become valuable.

The opposite can be true.

As more watches enter the secondary market, buyers gain more choices and become more selective. They begin asking questions that go beyond the original retail price:

Who will want this watch in five, ten or twenty years?

That is a much better question than:

How famous is the person on the dial?

The broader luxury-watch market also demonstrates why caution matters. Current industry reporting shows that the high-end market remains polarised, with ultra-luxury and established collector pieces performing differently from less established segments.

For CR7 watches, that means the long-term story will ultimately be determined by collector demand rather than launch-day excitement.

So, Will CR7 Watches Go Up in Value?

The honest answer is:

Some could. It is far too early to say that all CR7 watches will.

The strongest pieces would probably be those that combine the qualities collectors traditionally seek:

Limited production + excellent condition + complete set + provenance + strong demand + historical relevance.

The diamond-set editions have an additional scarcity argument because fewer were produced compared with the standard versions. The Flight of CR7 in rose gold also has a particularly strong connection with Ronaldo because it is the version associated with his public appearances.

However, even then, appreciation is not guaranteed.

A watch can be rare and still be difficult to sell.

A watch can be expensive and still lose value.

And a celebrity can be globally famous without creating permanent collector demand.

The Three Possible Futures for the CR7 Collection

Scenario 1: The Hype Fades

This is the risk.

If the watches remain primarily associated with Ronaldo's current celebrity status rather than becoming historically important pieces, secondary-market prices may remain flat or decline.

This is a normal pattern in the luxury-watch industry.

The launch creates attention. Buyers rush in. The market eventually settles. When the excitement fades, the watch has to stand on its own.

Scenario 2: They Become Stable Collectibles

This could be the more realistic long-term possibility.

The CR7 watches may never become explosive investments, but they could retain a significant proportion of their original value while remaining desirable to collectors.

That can still be a successful outcome.

You bought something special, wearable and culturally relevant — and ten years later, people still want it.

Not every collectible needs to double in value.

Scenario 3: Ronaldo's Legacy Elevates Them

This is the fascinating scenario.

Imagine looking back on Ronaldo's career several decades from now in the same way collectors now look back on Paul Newman.

If certain CR7 references become associated with key moments in his career, examples disappear into private collections and a new generation of collectors begins searching for them, the best-preserved examples could become considerably more desirable.

That's how modern watches can become vintage icons.

The launch doesn't make the legend. Time does.

What Experienced Watch Buyers Should Look For

If someone in Dubai is considering purchasing a CR7 Jacob & Co. with future value in mind, they should approach the purchase like a collector not like buying a stock.

Keep the Full Set

Box, papers, certificates, original accessories and purchase documentation all matter.

Protect the Condition

Collectors pay close attention to condition and originality. Unnecessary polishing, damaged components or replacement parts can affect future desirability.

Confirm the Exact Reference

"CR7 Jacob & Co." is not enough.

The exact reference, material, configuration and diamond specification all matter.

Record the Provenance

If the watch has legitimate documentation connecting it to an important event, presentation or ownership history, preserve that documentation carefully.

Do Not Confuse Asking Prices with Market Value

If a seller says they are asking AED X, that does not mean a buyer is prepared to pay AED X.

Completed transactions are considerably more meaningful than advertised prices.

Buy a Watch You Would Still Love Without Appreciation

This could be the most important rule of all.

If the price never rises, would you still be happy to own it?

If the answer is yes, you are approaching the purchase like a collector rather than a speculator.

Why Authentication Becomes More Important as CR7 Watches Age

Another factor becomes increasingly important as a limited-edition watch gets older:

Trust

As more watches circulate through the secondary market, buyers need confidence that the watch is authentic, correctly configured and complete.

This is particularly important with high-value limited editions, where seemingly minor details such as the movement, dial configuration, components, gemstone setting, serial/reference information or documentation can influence value.

This is where professional authentication becomes more than a formality.

At Timepiece360, our experience across the luxury-watch market has shown us that buyers and sellers increasingly want evidence behind the watch, not simply a confident description of it.

A properly examined and documented watch gives the next buyer something considerably more valuable than a sales pitch:

Confidence

That becomes even more important when a watch is being considered as a potential future collectible.

The Bigger Lesson From Rolex, Patek Philippe and AP

Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet remain central to collector discussions for a reason.

Their strongest references have decades of history, auction records, collector research, and established secondary-market demand behind them.

The Rolex Daytona is a perfect example.

Its history demonstrates how rarity, configuration, originality, condition, and provenance can transform individual examples into extraordinary collectibles.

Paul Newman's personal Daytona remains perhaps the most powerful example of all. Its $17.75 million auction result showed how a watch's historical significance and documented relationship with a cultural icon can take it far beyond the value of an ordinary example of the same model.

This is the level of history CR7 watches would need to develop if they are eventually going to enter the same investment conversation.

And history cannot be manufactured in a few years.

The Verdict: Is the Value of CR7 Watches Increasing in Dubai?

Not quite yet but they are certainly interesting enough to watch.

At the moment, there is limited evidence that CR7 models are appreciating in the same way as established trophy references. Current listings can provide useful indicators, but they should not be confused with confirmed transaction prices.

It would also be premature, however, to dismiss the collection simply because it has not experienced dramatic appreciation.

The ingredients are there:

  • Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Jacob & Co.
  • Limited production
  • Distinctive design
  • Mechanical credibility
  • A global fan base
  • A growing luxury-watch market in Dubai

But one ingredient cannot be manufactured.

Time

Maybe one day a collector will look at a CR7 Flight of CR7 and see more than a Jacob & Co. collaboration.

They may see a snapshot of the Ronaldo era a physical reminder of one of football's defining careers.

That's what makes watches legendary.

Paul Newman Daytona is not simply a valuable object. It is a piece of cultural history. And it offers an important lesson:

The Name Alone is Never Enough

For anyone considering a CR7 watch in Dubai today, the smartest approach is therefore neither blind optimism nor excessive scepticism.

Purchase the right reference. Purchase it at the right price. Verify it properly. Preserve the watch and its paperwork.

Most importantly, purchase it because you believe there is a story behind it that you would like to own not because someone told you its price will rise.

In the world of high-end watches, the future belongs to the pieces people still want when the hype disappears.

That is the real test CR7 must pass.
